Postharvest Management and Technologies Workshop

April 15, 2019

The members of the Nexus project: Capacity Strengthening for Postharvest Handling and Storage in Peru (CAST-PHS), hosted a workshop on postharvest technologies. The workshop took place on April 15, 2019 at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustin (UNSA) in Arequipa, Peru and was directed to train UNSA faculty members and their students who will work on ongoing research activities.

Dr. Dieudonne Baributsa, a professor in Purdue’s Entomology Department and the project’s principal investigator, led the workshop with Dr. Charles Woloshuk, a professor in Purdue’s Botany and Plant Pathology Department, along with Dr. Jorge Diaz-Valderrama, a postdoctoral researcher in the project. The workshop trained the participants on postharvest technologies, such as PICS bags, drying trays, and use of hygrometers; and demonstrated the impact of the different instruments. Twenty UNSA faculty and students participated in these hands-on training sessions.

UNSA faculty members of the CAST-PHS project: Dr. Jackeline Zanabria, Dr. Victor Casa, Nelly Ramirez and Dr. Dennis Macedo were participants and co-organizers of this program, as part of the large Nexus Institute’s capacity building and technology transfer.
