Research Roadmap

CQT has over 100 faculty at three universities working in some area of quantum information science, which allows for flexibility in research direction. The extremely diverse expertise of the CQT faculty and researchers will allow for a broad range of potential projects. Some of the proposed/potential research areas are:

  • Quantum Materials and Hardware
  • Quantum Sensing, Imaging, and Microscopy
  • Quantum Coherence
  • Quantum Emitters
  • Quantum Machine Learning and AI
  • Quantum Error Correction and Mitigation
  • Quantum Networking, Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Post Quantum Cryptography (PQC)
  • Quantum Algorithms, Optimization and Annealing
  • Education/Workforce Development

Project Selection and Cycle

CQTs Industry Advisory Board (IAB) meets twice per year. New project proposals are reviewed at the fall meeting. Selected projects begin, and initial results are reviewed in the spring. After the spring meeting, projects are refined and completed. All research activities are influenced by a continuous dialogue with the IAB.

How CQT Supports Members

CQT exists to share expertise in key research areas with its members. These areas are:

  • Algorithms and Architecture
  • Quantum Sensing and Hardware
  • Finance and Business
  • Communications and Networks
  • Materials Design and Chemistry

This focus will foster member-relevant, pre-competitive research results, a highly-skilled quantum workforce, and state-of-the-art technologies. In turn, expansion in the quantum ecosystem will drive membership growth and lead to new voices on the Industry Advisory Board.
