WordPress Site Settings

• Site title: The name of your site, such as college, department or office

The header anchors your site with Purdue branding while allowing space for departmental identity. From the dashboard, go to Appearance → Customize → Header.

Header Layout

Choose “Global with department name” if you want the Purdue brand displayed alongside your unit’s name.

Choose “Simple” if you want to display only the Purdue brand.

Optional Site Name

This option overrides the Site Title that is displayed next to the Purdue brand. Use this option if you require a different display name than the Site Title.

Optional CTA Button

This displays a single CTA button if using the “Global with department name” layout.

Menus

The header also supports Helpful Links and Quick Links, which appear under the hamburger menu. To enable them, create menus in WordPress and assign them to the correct header locations in the Customizer.

If your page requires a second navigation element at the top, open the page editor and look for the Second Menu Setting panel on the right. Check the box and select the menu you want to display. 

The footer is a flexible space for contact information, social links and navigation, ending with a branded Purdue signature. In the dashboard, go to Appearance → Customize → Footer to edit these details, including background images.

Each column of links in the footer is powered by a WordPress menu. Create the menus you need and assign them to each column within the Customizer.

The footer signature at the bottom is controlled through Appearance → Customize → Widgets → Footer Signature. If a widget is added by mistake, clear it. The theme will automatically revert to the default Purdue footer signature.

By default, the Purdue WordPress theme search box queries all Purdue websites. This is useful when your audience benefits from seeing results from other units.

WordPress Default Search

If you want searches to return only results from your site, go to Appearance → Customize → Search Options and select WordPress default search. From this panel, you can also:

• Customize the placeholder text in the search bar
• Adjust the list of suggested search items

These controls allow you to align search behavior with your audience’s needs.

Google Custom Search

This option returns results from across all Purdue sites. A custom Google search ID can be used. Note that if you select Google Custom Search, you will need to create an empty page on your site, name it Search and select the Search template as its template.
