Spring Family Weekend Events

Registration for Spring Family Weekend 2024

Purdue Parent & Family Connections appreciates your interest and engagement in Family Weekend. Registered guests receive a Family Weekend access wristband at check-in. The wristband allows you to attend Parent & Family Connections coordinated events. Community discounts will be announced for Family Weekend participants in March when it will then be added to the full Family Weekend event website. Your registration fees also provide support for the cost of Family Weekend online and onsite registration services, registration materials, facility rentals, staff and service fees. Family Weekend is an independent and self-supported event for Purdue families and is not financed by the University. No refunds will be provided for the registration fee. Selected events outside of the Parent & Family Connections coordinated programming include the College of Agriculture Spring Fest, Purdue Aviation Day, and the Purdue University Institute for Cancer Research - Challenge 5K Race. This weekend was selected to provide families with a variety of Purdue experiences. Thanks for your support in helping us offer the Spring Family Weekend. We appreciate your engagement and look forward to seeing you on campus.

    • Programming Description: Plant trees at Founders Park. This event will support Purdue’s 1869 Tree Planting Project that will wrap up next spring. This project was initiated 5 years ago to plant over 3,738 (1869 x2) in 5 years. This coming spring we will be planting around 440 trees to finish the project.

    • Programming Description: The Student Farm is an outdoor lab used for Education, Extension, and Research located near the Kampen Golf Course and Daniel Turf Center off Cherry Lane. They grow many beautiful vegetables and herbs that are sold through a 22-week CSA program.
  • ** Purdue Study Abroad & Intercultural Learning   
    • Time: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

    • Programming Description: Students who seek an experience that is unique and thought-provoking jumpstart the development of what and whom they aim to become. Intercultural experiences are coveted by employers, but are often misunderstood by students and parents. Come to this interactive session to learn how academic programs abroad help produce interculturally effective, highly-employable graduates.

    • Session Facilitator: Dr. Zenephia Evans, Associate Dean of Students, Education, and Advocacy Danielle and her husband Arthur are parenting partners with their Boilermaker’s biological family. She will tell stories, share strategies, and inspire you. Families will also have a chance to meet other families. Following this session, participants will feel more confident to embrace lessons learned through success and failure.

    • Time: 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

    • Programming Description: Learn about leadership lessons taught through Purdue’s competitive rowing program. Crew Coach, Nathan Walker's leadership style embraces the mission to “Foster a welcoming and rewarding holistic team environment for student-athletes focused on purposeful self-improvement through competitive rowing.” Following this session, parents will likely encourage their Boilermaker to take on new leadership roles for self-improvement through rowing or other campus opportunities. Walker is an inspiring leadership and sports coach.

  • ** Preparing Students for Success After Graduation:  World Readiness at Purdue

    • Programming Description: Purdue University recently reorganized some centers and offices to enhance the university’s focus on World Readiness, students’ preparation for citizenship, life, and work throughout their lifetimes. In this session, Jennifer Dobbs-Oates, Associate Vice Provost for World Readiness, will explain the university’s vision for World Readiness and how Purdue invests in the future success and life satisfaction of our students. The session will also include a panel of leaders from some or all of the following units within the World Readiness area:  the Center for Career Opportunities, the Office of Experiential Education, the Office of Undergraduate Research, Pre-Professional Advising, and Service-Learning. Presenters: Jennifer Dobbs-Oates, Associate Vice Provost for World Readiness, along with members of the World Readiness Leadership Team 
  • **$ Foodie Friday with ACE Campus Food Pantry 
    • Time: 3:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. 
    • Location: Baptist Student Foundation (home of ACE)

    • Programming Description: Foodie Friday serves as a way to bring the community together and address food insecurity on Purdue’s Campus. During this event we choose a shelf-stable mix to make which helps simplify the cooking process. While we mix and measure, it’s an opportunity to engage in open dialogues about food insecurity and its impact on our community. Food Friday is a space to share experiences, raise awareness, create new connections, and explore ways to support the needs of the community. Come and make a mix for the pantry and take one for yourself as well! 
  • ** Finding the Purdue Resources Students Need: A Virtual Scavenger Hunt    
    • Time: 3:30 p.m. –4:30 p.m.

    • Programming Description: Engage with Dr. Carl Krieger, and Mrs. Emily Del Real as they provide a fun way to learn about Purdue resources that support holistic well-being. Steps to Leaps provides a guide for a common language, resources, and assessment to align our work. These resources help students understand how resources and development opportunities link together and support their holistic well-being.

    • Programming Description: Join the Purdue Center for Career Opportunities for a panel discussion with a student, a recent graduate, and an employer. Panel participants will share their resources tips, and stories of success and challenges they overcame. Veronica Rahim, the CCO Director of Employer Engagement will facilitate the session. This session will create awareness about the job search resources and tools to help Boilermakers make the most of the Purdue experience.

This cooking demonstration focuses on preparing quick, easy, and affordable meals with minimal ingredients. Recipes include Bruschetta, Italian Green Beans, Pesto Pasta and Tiramisu.

The Demonstration Kitchen strives to make cooking accessible to everyone, by demonstrating delicious recipes and menus that are quick, easy and affordable. Our Student Cooking Instructors will provide you with nutrition information, culinary techniques, and food sanitation guidelines. You will also have the opportunity to sample the dishes prepared during the demonstration you attend.

Join the Purdue Pickleball Club for a friendly double elimination pickleball tournament. Kimberly Akimbo  Tony Award-winning duo Jeanine Tesori (music) and David Lindsay-Abaire (book) have re-visited their first collaboration to deliver a more intimate and engaging experience. With all-new original direction and choreography by Danny Mefford (Choreographer , Dear Evan Hansen) , this reimagined production of  SHREK THE MUSICAL brings the show back to its roots – giving it a new kind of love emphasizing the importance of loving ourselves and one another.

David Lindsay-Abaire  says “It’s been such a gift to get to revisit the show after all these years and rethink some of the choices and reimagine the piece as a whole. This all-new production is leaner and more focused. It’s joyful and funny and feels beautifully hand-crafted in a way that really brings out the things we first fell in love with – the heart and wonder and humor of the story.”
