Appointments, honors and activities

Appointments and promotions:

- Tina Tran is the director of the veterinary technology program in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Previously, Tran, whose appointment was effective July 1, was on the faculty of the Portland Community College veterinary technology program. While at Portland Community College, Tran organized and expanded a three-term internship program and served on the American Veterinary Medical Association's 20/20 Vision Commission and the Oregon Veterinary Association's leadership council. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and her doctorate from the University of Illinois.

- Pete Bill, professor of veterinary pharmacology, is the College of Veterinary Medicine's assistant dean for academic affairs, teaching and learning, effective July 1. He previously was director of the college's veterinary technology program for 11 years.

Alumni honors:

- Xiaoping Yang, a senior engineer at Cummins Inc. in Columbus, Ind., has been named a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the highest elected grade of membership in the organization. Fellowship is given a member with at least 10 years of active engineering practice and who has made significant contributions to the profession. Yang is a renowned surface integrity expert whose innovations have significantly advanced the knowledge of machining process effects on fatigue life variance. He received his doctorate from the Purdue School of Industrial Engineering in 2001.
