Office of the Provost announces request for proposals to build integrative data science education ecosystem

As part of its Integrative Data Science Initiative, Purdue is launching an internal funding opportunity for ambitious proposals that will expand data science education across campus.

Initiated by Jay Akridge, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity, and Suresh Garimella, executive vice president for research and partnerships, the initiative has been formulated through two cross-campus working groups, forums and input from campus-wide discussions.

“The objective of this request for proposals is to facilitate the realization of the working groups’ recommendations to create a data science education ecosystem, embed data science into domain curricula, and to establish an ecosystem of data fluency throughout campus,” says Jenna Rickus, associate vice provost for teaching and learning.

Applicants are encouraged to attend the Data Science Education Ecosystem Summit on April 16. It will be held 2:30-4 p.m. in Wilmeth Active Learning Center, Room 2127.  Follow this link to RSVP.  Faculty and staff who are not submitting proposals but who are engaged or interested in data science education also are invited to the summit.

Proposals are due by April 30. Refer to the linked document for proposal details.

For programmatic questions, contact Jenna Rickus at rickus@purdue.edu. For questions on proposal budget and submission, contact Cherise Hall at cherise@purdue.edu, assistant provost for finance and administration.
