33 students honored for national, international scholarship awards and nominations

At a reception on April 23, the National and International Scholarships Office honored 33 students who placed in several prestigious nationwide and international scholarship competitions during 2017-18. 

The event, in Honors Hall at Honors College and Residences North, recognized students who received or were nominated for some of the nation’s top scholarships, including Fulbright grants, Rhodes scholarships, Truman scholarships, scholarships from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation and more. President Mitch Daniels gave remarks at the start of the reception. Rosanne Altstatt, NISO assistant dean, and Veronica Schirm, NISO scholarship director, also spoke at the event.

Honored at the event were:

* Samuel Albert, Fulbright U.S. Student Program alternate, senior in the College of Engineering and Honors College.

* Marly Beck, Udall Scholarship Nominee and Boren Scholarship nominee, sophomore in the College of Agriculture and Honors College.

* Braden Beyer, Gilman Scholarship recipient, sophomore in the College of Health and Human Sciences.

* Audrey Caprio, Fulbright U.S. Student Program semifinalist, senior in the College of Health and Human Sciences.

* Katherine Ceglio, Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantee, senior in the College of Science and Honors College.

* Laura Duke, Gilman Scholarship recipient, sophomore in the College of Education.

* Chrishan Fernando, Goldwater Scholarship nominee and Astronaut Scholarship nominee 2018, junior in the College of Science and Honors College.

* Zoya Hsiao, Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantee, alumna of the School of Management and Honors College.

* Mitchell Jacobs, Fulbright U.S. Student Program semi-finalist, graduate student in the College of Liberal Arts.

* Shannon Kane, Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantee, senior in the School of Management.

* Joshua Leeman, Churchill Scholarship nominee, senior in the College of Science.

* Abby Lemert, Marshall Scholar and Rhodes Scholarship nominee, senior in the College of Engineering.

* Nathan LeRoy, Goldwater Scholarship nominee, junior in the College of Engineering.

* Namaluba Malawo, Gilman Scholarship recipient, sophomore in the College of Science and Honors College.

* Chelsea Maupin, Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantee, senior in the College of Agriculture.

* William Mbongo, Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantee, senior in the College of Science and Honors College.

* Mikaela Meyer, Marshall Scholarship finalist and Rhodes Scholarship nominee, senior in the College of Science and Honors College.

* Alan Min, Churchill Scholarship nominee, senior in the College of Science.

* Robert Neale Moore, Schwarzman Scholars finalist, senior in the College of Engineering.

* Emma Noelke, Fulbright U.S. Student Program semifinalist, senior in the College of Liberal Arts and Honors College.

* Ellen Praught, Truman Scholarship nominee, junior in the School of Management.

* Caleigh Roleck, Astronaut Scholar 2017 and Astronaut Scholarship nominee 2018, junior in the College of Science and Honors College.

* Paige Rudin, Truman Scholar and Boren Scholar, junior in the College of Engineering and Honors College.

* Caroline Shanley, Truman Scholarship nominee, junior in the College of Liberal Arts.

* Elijah St. Angelo, Gilman Scholarship recipient, junior in the Polytechnic Institute.

* Kadari Taylor-Watson, Fulbright U.S. Student Program semifinalist, graduate student in the College of Liberal Arts.

* Danielle Wagner, Fulbright U.S. Student Program alternate, graduate student in the College of Engineering.

* Amanda Warnock, Truman Scholarship nominee, junior in the College of Liberal Arts and Honors College.

* Catharine Weaver, Goldwater Scholarship nominee, junior in the College of Engineering and Honors College.

The National and International Scholarships Office, housed within the Honors College, coordinates Purdue’s campus nominations for selective competitions and guides students through the process of applying for these awards.
