Chief Scientist and Executive Director of Discovery Park

 


Purdue University invites applications and nominations for the position of Chief Scientist and Executive Director of Discovery Park, Purdue’s interdisciplinary research hub established to foster broad partnerships for research and education. 

The Chief Scientist and Executive Director of Discovery Park will report to the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships.  Responsibilities include building upon Discovery Park’s foundation of excellence which has enabled high-impact research that crosses traditional academic boundaries.  The Chief Scientist and Executive Director of Discovery Park will work closely with the faculty and deans to help catalyze Purdue’s many strengths and build on its legacy of interdisciplinary research with global impact and public-private partnerships.

The successful candidate will be a thought leader and energize Discovery Park’s institutional excellence in innovation and translational research.  The candidate will effectively collaborate with academic units and provide strategic vision and leadership that will help focus Discovery Park’s many successful research capabilities and centers on addressing one or two very high-impact and cross-cutting themes. The goal is to further develop Discovery Park as a critical lever for institutional excellence central to the overarching theme of President Mitch Daniels’ administration.  The candidate will be a pre-eminent scholar with a record of excellence and accomplishments in research which has effectively addressed complex global-scale challenges such as in health, food, water, environment or energy.  The candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to serve as a champion of Discovery Park’s vision for tackling high-impact challenges through dedicated successful research and leadership teams.  

A Visioning and Search Committee has been charged with the task of finding the qualified candidate. Michael Ladisch is chair of the committee with Eric Barker, Alexandra Boltasseva, Hyunyi Cho, Rebecca Doerge, Gebisa Ejeta, Thomas Hacker, Jessica Huber, Stephen Konieczny, Philip Low, Mark Lundstrom, Arvind Raman, Timothy Ratliff, and Thomas Sors serving as committee members.
