Dooley named vice provost for teaching and learning

Frank Dooley has been named vice provost for teaching and learning, effective immediately.

Dooley, who had been serving as interim vice provost, will report directly to Deba Dutta, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. In this position, Dooley will work closely with Beth McCuskey, interim vice provost for student life, and Pam Horne, associate vice provost for enrollment management and dean of admissions, to ensure the smooth integration of programs and initiatives for the new Division of Student Academic Affairs.

Dooley will provide leadership for undergraduate education, academic planning, program evaluation, and general academic policy development and implementation. He also will review academic budgets and serve as a liaison between colleges for curricular changes affecting multiple colleges.

Dooley, who received his bachelor's degree from St. John's University, his juris doctorate from University of North Dakota, and his doctoral degree from Washington State University, came to Purdue's Department of Agricultural Economics in 1998. He has served as professor of agricultural economics, associate head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Provost Fellow and associate vice provost for undergraduate academic affairs.

Dooley has an international reputation as being a gifted and innovative teacher and creative researcher, and he has led the University's efforts to develop Instruction Matters: Purdue Academic Course Transformation (IMPACT) and to evaluate the adoption of trimesters at Purdue.

Dooley has received 23 awards for outstanding teaching, research and advising, including the Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2009 and the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher in 2011. He was inducted into Purdue's Teaching Academy in 2002 and into the University's Book of Great Teachers in 2014. His research interests include logistical and supply chain management for food and agribusiness.
