Two weight management programs to begin in September

September 4, 2014

The Center for Healthy Living (CHL) is taking registrations for the Sept. 11 and Sept. 23 start dates of its weight management series.

The 10-week program is free and open to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff. Spouses and same-sex domestic partners covered on a Purdue medical plan are also eligible for the program at no charge.

"The program focuses on being healthy, not the number on the scale," says Janis Gosewehr, an employee in Purdue's Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, who has benefited from the program.

The program includes a one-on-one meeting with a CHL health coach, plus learning about nutrition, food labels and exercise.

Participants will set weekly smart goals and have a chance to brainstorm and share successes with others in the program.

"It's not a diet. It's about changing habits and feeling better about yourself," says Gosewehr, who shares the full story of her experience with the program on the Center for Healthy Living website.

Those who wish to participate should call Millie Fenneman, CHL practice administrator, at 49-45505.

Programs starting in September are:

Sept. 11-Nov. 13
Thursdays, noon-12:50 p.m.
Register by Sept. 8 (Monday).

Sept. 23-Dec. 2
Tuesdays, noon-12:50 p.m. (skip week of Thanksgiving)
Register by Sept. 17.

In addition to the group weight management program, one-on-one health coaching for weight management is available through the center. Individuals who are interested in meeting with a health coach should call the center at 49-40111 to make an appointment.
