OIE seeking volunteers to test accessibility compliance software

July 10, 2014

The Office of Institutional Equity is seeking volunteers to help test and pilot a new software program, Compliance Sheriff, which will be used as a resource for the West Lafayette campus to ensure compliance with the Web Accessibility Policy.

Compliance Sheriff is an automated accessibility testing tool from HiSoftware that helps organizations ensure that their Web pages meet accessibility standards. Compliance Sheriff features a Web-based user interface that checks the overall compliance of a website and identifies Web pages with accessibility issues.

Currently, OIE is working in collaboration with IT Teaching and Learning Technologies to administer the software (e.g., configure the software, develop training, etc.). The pilot phase of this project will begin July 28 with a hands-on instructor-led overview of the software for volunteer Web developers.

Participants of the pilot will be asked to run scans of their departments' websites, report issues and concerns, and complete an overall survey at the conclusion of the pilot, which is scheduled to conclude in early September.

Web developers and others who understand HTML code who would like to participate in the pilot should contact Marcy Hintzman at mhintzma@purdue.edu to reserve a spot or to request additional information.
