IE to host Stanford engineering professor in Pritsker lecture

April 16, 2014

Peter W. Glynn, a Stanford professor, will discuss the power of stochastic models Thursday (April 17) in the Pritsker Scholars Distinguished Lecture, presented by the School of Industrial Engineering.

Glynn, also a member of the National Academy of Engineering, has titled his lecture "Stochastic Modeling: Perspectives and Challenges." He will speak at 2:30 p.m. in Stewart Center, Room 206. A reception will follow, and the event is free and open to the public.

At Stanford, Glynn is the Thomas W. Ford Professor in the School of Engineering and chair of the Department of Management Science and Engineering. He also holds a courtesy appointment in the Department of Electrical Engineering. He is a fellow of INFORMS and of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. His research interests lie in simulation, computational probability, queueing theory, statistical inference for stochastic processes, and stochastic modeling.

The lecture series is named for Alan Pritsker, an industrial engineering professor who was on Purdue's faculty from 1970 to 1998, helping build Purdue IE's reputation as a leader. He made major contributions to the discipline, particularly in the area of computer simulation. In 1973 he co-founded Pritsker & Associates to apply computer simulation technologies, and in 1989 the firm merged with FACTROL to form Pritsker Corp.
