America Saves Week encourages employees to consider personal savings

February 24, 2014

America Saves

Today (Feb. 24) through March 1, employees are encouraged to participate in America Saves Week, which provides guidance on the hows and whys of saving money.

This week is an ideal time for employees to think about their personal savings plan and consider participating in the 1% Savings Challenge, an initiative aimed at helping people understand the impact made by small adjustments in retirement savings. More information is available at www.purdue.edu/hr/pdf/americaSavesPoster.pdf.

To view 2014 retirement limits and current account balances or to increase contributions, log into NetBenefits at www.plan.fidelity.com/purdue or call a Fidelity representative at 800-642-7131.

To encourage employees with modest incomes to save for retirement, the tax saver's credit offsets part of the first $2,000 voluntarily contributed to workplace retirement programs. Employees have until April 15, 2014, to set up a new individual retirement arrangement or add money to an existing IRA for 2013. More information about the saver's credit is at http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/Plan-Now-to-Get-Full-Benefit-of-Saver%E2%80%99s-Credit.

During America Saves Week, Fidelity is increasing the number of live, presenter-led workshops that will be available online. Employees can attend just one, or sign up for a series of workshops. Prerecorded versions of all workshops are available any time during the week. A schedule of America Saves workshops is available at www.purdue.edu/hr/pdf/americaSavesWorkshops.pdf. To register, log on to http://webworkshops.fidelity.com.

Fidelity representatives can also provide in-person workshops at staff meetings or other events. To request a workshop, call 800-544-6868.
