The Purdue Farmers Market will reopen Thursday (May 2), and it will offer fruits, vegetables, crafts and other goods every Thursday through Oct. 31.

The market will be open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. It returns for a second year to a spot on Centennial Mall between Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry and Stanley Coulter Hall.

"The Centennial Mall spot is a very central campus location that gives Farmers Market customers access to outdoor seating and several green spaces. We're proud to again offer market customers the convenience and ease of access this spot provides," says Tamm Hoggatt, assistant director of sustainability. The Office of University Sustainability manages the market.

In addition to a variety of local produce and craft goods, the market again will offer local prepared foods, which will be served during market hours. This year, prepared offerings will include iced coffee, salads, pulled pork, cheeseburgers and several desserts.

The prepared foods were a popular feature of the market last year, which is when they first were offered, says Sarah Vaughn, assistant to the director of university sustainability.

In an online survey circulated at the end of October, more than 300 faculty, staff members and students wrote that they enjoyed attending the market as an outdoor lunch destination. Several wrote that they attended each week to purchase lunch as well as fresh fruit and vegetables from local growers.

Twenty-minute parking spots will be available along Oval Drive and will be free to use during market hours. Providing marketing support, contracts with vendors and a market master is Greater Lafayette Commerce.

More information about the Purdue Farmers Market will be available soon at www.purdue.edu/sustainability.

The campus farmers market will complement other markets that operate in Greater Lafayette:

* Historic Lafayette Farmers Market. Open 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturdays from May 4 to Oct. 26 on Fifth Street between Main and Columbia streets in downtown Lafayette. More information about the Lafayette Farmers Market, including a produce calendar indicating what's in season each month, is at www.lafayettefarmersmarket.com.

* Sagamore West Farmers Market. Open 3 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays from May 1 through Oct. 30 in Cumberland Park on Salisbury Street, West Lafayette. More information about the West Lafayette market is at www.westlafayette.in.gov/department/division.php?fDD=8-164.
