Lactation Support Program

Since 2008, Purdue University has been proud to join hundreds of employers across the United States in providing support for their employees  and attending students who are breastfeeding mothers. Research has shown lactation support from an employer helps to lower health care costs, turnover rates, and absenteeism while increasing employee and student productivity and morale.

Through the Lactation Support Program, Purdue University Human Resources provides an information packet for expecting mothers, lactation spaces for breastfeeding and resources to help employees and students  be successful in their transition back to work or school after having a child.

Please register for the Lactation Support Program. Not only is registration simple and free, but the information you provide will help us continue the program. While registering, you can select the option to receive a mother’s packet with information on what to do when preparing to return to work, as well as other resources for expecting and breastfeeding mothers.

If any employee needs assistance with any portion of the lactation support program, please complete a registration form to detail the request or contact Human Resources – Benefits Administrator, Family Programming at 494-2222.

Additionally, lactation support is available on the West Lafayette campus at the Center for Healthy Living (CHL). Lauren Ema, MSN, APRN, CPNP-PC, RNC-NIC, IBCLC, CLC, is a primary care pediatric nurse practitioner and international board-certified lactation consultant. Lauren hopes that lactation services available on campus will help Purdue families navigate the challenges of infant feeding amidst parental leave and after return to work. Research has shown that employer-based lactation support programs decrease employee sick time and increase employee productivity, retention and satisfaction.

“Infant feeding affects a family’s everyday life, she shared. “Whether they are breastfeeding, mixed feeding or formula feeding, families and their children are more likely to flourish when they have a knowledgeable clinician guiding them and supporting them in their decisions along the way.”

Call the CHL at 765-494-0111 to schedule a lactation consultation.
