Merit Scholarships for 2009 Entering Freshmen

Merit Scholarships
Purdue awards most of its merit scholarships to qualified students through an automatic process based on academic information provided with the admissions application (fall semester applicants only).

To qualify for the Trustees or Presidential scholarships, high school seniors who meet the designated academic criteria must have a complete admission application on file at Purdue no later than November 15, 2008. Students who meet the November 15 deadline may submit new SAT or ACT test scores for scholarship consideration until January 1, 2009. New scores must be sent electronically from the testing agency. Only domestic students are eligible for the Trustees and Presidential scholarships.
 
Trustees Scholarship
Value: Up to $10,000 per year for out-of-state students; up to $8,000 per year for Indiana residents
Criteria: High school core GPA of 3.8 on 4.0 scale plus an SAT of 2000 or higher or a score of 30 or higher on both the ACT composite and ACT combined English/writing. Purdue will calculate student GPA based on grades in core academic coursework as provided on the final junior year transcript. Purdue also will determine the qualifying coursework, which will include math, science, English, social studies, and foreign language.
Renewability: Students may receive the scholarship for no more than four academic years of continuous full-time enrollment (at least 12 credit hours per semester). Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA to renew each year.

Presidential Scholarship
Value: Up to $7,000 per year for out-of-state students; up to $5,000 per year for Indiana residents
Criteria: High school core GPA of 3.8 on 4.0 scale plus an SAT of 1850-1990 or an ACT composite of 27-29 and an ACT combined English/writing of 28-29. Purdue will calculate student GPA based on grades in core academic coursework as provided on the final junior year transcript. Purdue also will determine the qualifying coursework, which will include math, science, English, social studies, and foreign language.
Renewability: Students may receive the scholarship for no more than four academic years of continuous full-time enrollment (at least 12 credit hours per semester). Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA to renew each year.

Beering Scholarship
Value: Full-ride scholarship that covers one bachelor’s degree, one master’s degree or MBA, and a PhD or medical degree (from Indiana University Medical School); average room and board costs; travel; one study abroad; books; and a small stipend
Criteria: Select students are invited to apply. Students must demonstrate outstanding academic performance and personal achievement and be admitted to Purdue by mid December.

Domestic students include U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, permanent resident aliens, and aliens lawfully present in and able to establish domicile in the U.S. per federal immigration laws.  International students who are holders of F, J and some other visa types are not eligible.
