Transfer Criteria
College transfer student applications are reviewed on an individual and holistic basis. Such review encompasses much of the same criteria that applies to beginning college students, such as:

• High school subject matter expectations
• Overall grades in academic coursework
• Grades related to intended major
• Ability to be successful in intended major
• Personal background and experiences
• Time of year the student applies
• Space availability in the intended program

In addition, transfer applicants must satisfy criteria including GPA expectations in college-level coursework and program-specific prerequisites, grade requirements, etc. (see chart below).

If you did not meet the subject matter expectations while in high school, we will review your college transcript(s) to determine if you have made up those deficiencies.

Admission expectations depend on the Purdue college or school you wish to enter.

To ensure the integrity of our academic programs and to provide quality resources for students already admitted, the required grade point average and other criteria necessary for admission to a specific Purdue college, school, or program may change without notice.

**Applicants in their first semester of college may be admitted as transfer students based on their high school academic record, pending successful completion of their first college semester coursework. Otherwise, transfer applicants are expected to have completed a minimum of 12 college-level credits (developmental and/or remedial coursework does not apply) and must satisfy criteria including GPA expectations in college-level coursework and program-specific prerequisites, grade requirements, etc.

Requirements for Specific Programs

Computer Science
Transfer students with one year or less of college coursework must meet high school subject matter expectations and be in the upper half of their high school graduating class or have earned a B or higher in a college calculus course. Students also must have a strong SAT or ACT score and a 2.5 college GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Transfer students with more than one year of college coursework must meet high school subject matter expectations, have earned a B or higher in a college calculus course, and have a 2.5 college GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Engineering  
Transfer students interested in entering First-Year Engineering must:

• Have a GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) or higher in the subject matter outlined below.
• Have completed at least 14 semester-credit hours of the First-Year Engineering subject matter expectations (see below), including at least 8 semester credit hours of calculus, chemistry, or physics.

Transfer students interested in being admitted directly to a specific engineering discipline must have completed all of the following college-level coursework and have the necessary GPA.

• Calculus: 2 semesters
• Chemistry: 1 semester
• Science Elective:
  • 2nd semester of Chemistry, OR
  • Computer Science (programming content only): 1 semester
• Physics (calculus-based): 1 semester
• English Composition: 1 semester
• Speech or Humanities: 1 semester

• Aeronautical and Astronautical: 3.0
• Agricultural: 2.5
• Biomedical: (closed)
• Chemical: 3.3
• Civil: 3.0
• Computer: 2.5
• Construction Engineering and Management***: 2.5

1. Completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in another field of study from an accredited college or university.
   
   OR

2. Completion of at least 12 semester credit hours (or equivalent) at an accredited college or university. Completion of at least six hours of college-level natural science courses (biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, etc.) with grades of B or higher.

Pharmaceutical Sciences  
To be considered for admission directly to the pharmaceutical sciences program, applicants must have completed the two-year prepharmaceutical sciences curriculum with a 3.0 GPA. The application can be requested via (765) 494-1357, oss@pharmacy.purdue.edu, or www.pharmacy.purdue.edu. Students who have not completed the two-year pharmaceutical sciences curriculum may apply for prepharmaceutical sciences.

Pharm D (Doctor of Pharmacy) Two years of prepharmacy are required to apply for the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program. Students who will have completed two or more years of prepharmacy by the end of the academic year must apply for the program through the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS) by December 1; this application can be found at www.pharmcas.org. Applicants also must request a secondary application from the Purdue School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and meet a deadline of December 1. The secondary application can be requested via (765) 494-1357, oss@pharmacy.purdue.edu, or www.pharmacy.purdue.edu.

Prepharmacy
Students applying for enrollment in prepharmacy to begin in fall 2008 and beyond must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA (4.0 scale) or higher for consideration. They also must complete the following college requirements with grades of B or higher in each course:

• General chemistry: 6 hours or 2 semesters
• General biology: 6 hours or 2 semesters
• Calculus: 6 hours or 2 semesters

Students should be enrolled in a minimum of 14 credit hours per semester to be academically competitive for admission to the professional program. They also are encouraged to make an appointment with a pharmacy academic advisor to review the academic record and to develop a plan of study.

Subject Matter Expectations

for Applicants Entering Fall 2008

1 Academic math includes algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, analysis, etc.
2 Lab science includes biology, chemistry, physics, anatomy, physiology, earth/space science, etc.
3 Students do not have to take four semesters of the same foreign language. American Sign Language counts if it is part of a secondary school’s curriculum.
