Transfer Credit

The following are answers to some frequently asked questions about transfer credit:

What determines which of my credits will transfer?
After you've been admitted, Purdue's credit evaluation department will evaluate your college transcript(s). Each transcript will be reviewed on the basis of the school's accreditation status (it should be regionally accredited), the grade received in each course (grades of "C" or higher can earn transfer credit), each course's similarity to its equivalent Purdue course, and the course level. You'll receive an official evaluation of your credits within 30 days of your offer of admission. Only credits, not grades, will transfer.

I'm a student at another public college in Indiana. Will my credits transfer?
Purdue participates in a statewide initiative to facilitate the transfer of college credit from one public Indiana college or university to another. This initiative, TransferIN.net, has established a library of courses that will transfer to any of the participating schools. Visit the Indiana Core Transfer Library Web site to determine whether coursework you’ve completed at another Indiana institution is within this library. If it is, and you received a grade of "C" or higher in the class, you’ll find the equivalent Purdue credit on this site. The transferability is guaranteed for coursework initiated after January 1, 2007. Coursework on this list that was initiated prior to January 1, 2007, will continue to be considered for transfer credit per Purdue’s guidelines for all other college transfer credit.

How many credits must I have to transfer?
For many programs, Purdue does not require a specific number of credits to transfer. But certain programs, such as Engineering, Flight, Management, Nursing, and Science, require that you complete specific courses before you can be admitted. In addition, if you were not admissible to Purdue out of high school, we'll ask to see a minimum of 12 semester hours of college-level coursework (100-level or higher). How many credits can I transfer to Purdue?
There is no limit on the number of credits you can transfer to Purdue; however, you must complete at least 32 Purdue credit hours in order to receive a Purdue degree.

Can I obtain college credit from my military experience?
You can receive college credit for active duty by submitting a copy of your DD214, preferably with your application for admission. This copy isn't required for admission evaluation but is necessary for credit consideration. Military training programs are not evaluated for transfer credit.
