Thursday: Provost Conversation to discuss goals of Transformative Education 2.0

Jay Akridge, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity, is hosting a campuswide conversation about Transformative Education 2.0, one of the five strategic initiatives of Purdue’s Next Moves. The virtual conversation is scheduled for 3-4 p.m. Thursday (April 22). All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to join.

‘Undruggable’ cancer protein becomes druggable, thanks to shrub

A chemist from Purdue has found a way to synthesize a compound to fight a previously “undruggable” cancer protein with benefits across a myriad of cancer types. Inspired by a rare compound found in a shrub native to North America, Mingji Dai, professor of chemistry and a scientist at the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research, studied the compound and discovered a cost-effective and efficient way to synthesize it in the lab.

Purdue to add civics literacy requirement for incoming class

Purdue's Board of Trustees on Monday (April 19) announced its plan to adopt a civics literacy graduation requirement for undergraduates, beginning with students who enter Purdue in fall 2021. The board will vote on the requirement at its June 11 public meeting. The program also will be available and optional for all other students and will lead to a notation of Civics Literacy Proficiency on the student transcript.

Purdue is offering weekly tips to help alleviate some of the challenges associated with remote workloads and participating in web-based (video) meetings. This week’s tip recommends organizers consider the best modality for information exchange. To reduce the number of video meetings, consider whether or not an email, chat, or a call could accomplish the same goals.
