Scholars network accepting proposals for Community Engagement Grant for Social Justice Research
The Indiana chapter of the Scholars Strategy Network (SSN) is inviting proposals for its Community Engagement Grant for Social Justice Research. The grant supports faculty conducting research in collaboration with a community partner to address a pressing social justice issue.
Purdue, through the Purdue Policy Research Institute, is the lead for the Indiana regional chapter of the Scholars Strategy Network, organizing SSN activities in Indiana. The SSN Indiana chapter is led by Rosalee Clawson, professor of political science, and Leigh Raymond, professor of political science.
Faculty at any Indiana college or university are eligible to apply. Proposals received will be reviewed on four criteria:
- Addresses a pressing social justice issue.
- Level of community involvement.
- Potential for community impact.
- Contribution to academic discipline.
Successful proposals will receive up to $1,500 each in funding to support a community-based research project, which should be used solely for direct costs such as supplies and expenses, student support and payments to research participants. All research activities must be conducted in compliance with COVID-19 guidelines. Up to two proposals will be selected.
Proposals are not to exceed five pages and should be double-spaced throughout with 12-point font and one-inch margins. The application should describe the aims of the project, background and significance, research approach, how the community will be involved, the potential for community impact, and the budget justification. IRB approval must be obtained for any research involving human subjects.
Interested participants should submit their applications online by 5 p.m. ET May 3. Awardees will be announced by May 14, and all research must be completed by Sept. 1.
More information about the Community Engagement Grant project is available in this PDF file. Questions or concerns regarding the grant or the application process should be directed to Scovia Aweko, SSN graduate fellow, at saweko@purdue.edu.
