Resources announced for PWL, PFW and PNW students preparing for summer, fall
Undergraduate students joining Purdue’s campuses for summer and fall have numerous resources available to assist them in preparing for learning in the Brightspace learning management system.

Undergraduates enrolled in summer, VSTAR, and fall courses will automatically be enrolled in Learning Online 101, which will appear alongside their other courses in Brightspace and remain available while they are at Purdue.
Details on Learning Online 101 were outlined when it was released in January. It is a self-paced, elective course designed to meet the needs of undergraduate learners, whether in hybrid or online courses. The course was built by a team from Innovative Learning, working with faculty and student reviewers to address common issues among fall semester students in navigating Brightspace, feeling emotionally, physically, and logistically unprepared for hybrid and online learning, and balancing their dynamic course schedules, among other challenges.
West Lafayette instructors and staff may also register for access to Learning Online 101 through this link to course registration.

PFW faculty are encouraged to help students make sure they are prepared for online and hybrid courses through:
- PFW’s Online Readiness Survey for Students
- CELT’s Time Commitment Calculator, which will help students estimate their weekly time commitments and consequently estimate their ability to dedicate the weekly time necessary to be successful in your course(s).
- PFW’s Student Success Online site, created by Student Success and Transitions.
- Review CELT’s Course Planning page and schedule one-on-one sessions with a CELT consultant to discuss your specific online course design needs.
- Faculty who are moving traditional face-to-face classes online are encouraged to review CELT’s General Considerations for Transitioning Courses Online.
Fort Wayne faculty may also register for Katie Jia’s (CELT) popular “Learning to Teaching Online” course, which will run from July 12 – July 31 (seats are limited).
Purdue Northwest student resources
Purdue Northwest faculty are encouraged to direct their students to the following resources:
- PNW Brightspace Student Resource Website – a collection of guides and resources to help students navigate their courses in Brightspace, including a Getting Started Checklist for students using Brightspace for the first time
- PNW Brightspace Student Training Course (students must complete this survey to be enrolled in the course) – an online practice course to introduce students to the Brightspace environment and provide practice spaces for exploration (e.g., submitting an assignment, taking a quiz)
- Getting Started Semester Tech Resources – a list of technology tools and resources to assist with their coursework
