Benefits for 2020: Employee feedback helpful; detailed information coming soon

Following open enrollment last fall, Human Resources-Benefits sought employee input and feedback about enrollment as well as overall health and wellness offerings at the University. More than 1,550 employees took the survey, and their feedback has prompted changes -- some already made and others that will take place throughout this fall's open enrollment period.

Purdue center to focus on development of Earth-moon economy

To create a sustainable presence beyond Earth, humans need to further expand into the region encompassing Earth and the moon, called “cislunar space.” Purdue Engineering on Thursday (July 18) announced its Cislunar Initiative, which aims to provide national leadership in the development of cislunar capabilities, including infrastructure, and advance the space-based economy through collaboration with industry, academia and government agencies.

Events held July 18-20 at Purdue commemorated Apollo 11 and the moment on July 20, 1969, when alumnus Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon. The celebration included showings of a new "Armstrong" documentary, children’s activities, various panels and tours, a flyover and more.

3D lava tube model

Could humans live in lava tubes on the moon?

Large cavelike formations below the moon's surface could provide protection from hazards such as radiation, meteorites and temperature fluctuations. Purdue's Resilient ExtraTerrestrial Habitats (RETH) group is using 3D imaging to help explore whether human habitats in the tubes could work.
