Civics Literacy

The Civics Literacy degree requirement adds to the educational experience of Purdue students to prepare a more knowledgeable and engaged citizenry.

About Civics Literacy

The Civics Literacy program is a graduation requirement for all Purdue undergraduate students. Once the activities are completed, a notation of Civics Literacy Proficiency will be placed on a student’s transcript. The activities were created to enhance the educational experience of Purdue students and graduate a more informed citizenry. Completed activities that contribute to students’ Civics Literacy proficiency will:

  • Increase students’ understanding of important contemporary political issues
  • Identify opportunities to grow students’ engagement in American politics
  • Expand students’ awareness of and options for civic participation
