Summer Stay Scholar Testimonials

Jack Hamlin

"I took seven credit hours during the summer of 2016 and participated in a nanobubble beam steering research project with Dr. Joseph Irudayaraj’s lab as a Summer Stay Scholar. Though the summer felt very fast-paced and jam-packed, it helped me prepare for future courses I will be taking in later years at Purdue and it has really helped me feel successful. Staying on-campus, taking classes, and participating in a research project challenged me in positive ways that have made me a better, more mature student.”

“I really like the Summer Stay program. It was beneficial and helped me achieve my goals because I’m in the process of getting into a new major so I had a bunch of classes I needed to take. Being able to get some of those classes completed during the summer was extremely helpful and it was a really good experience. I interned with the Horizons Program, which is a federally funded program that provides services to low-income students and students from first generation families. I loved recruiting new students and helping them assimilate into college life. It was amazing!”

“Having the opportunity to be a Summer Stay Scholar definitely allowed me to improve my academics and progress towards accomplishing my goals. Being here in the summer gave me the chance to complete some classes for my major that will now allow me to take some fun, interesting classes during my fall and spring semesters.”

"I was able to work two jobs and take classes for credit this past summer. Life felt busy, but having to balance an internship and courses made me better learn how to prioritize my time. Plus, through my internship as a Summer Stay Scholar, I was able to get some great work experience. I would recommend staying at Purdue during the summers to anyone and I definitely plan on being on campus again next summer!"

My summer experience was pretty awesome! I liked the summer classes I took and campus was a bit quieter in the summer so I could really focus on studying. However, there were still a lot of fun events going on so you could still hang out and meet new people. I enjoyed being able to do research and take classes at the same time and being a Summer Stay Scholar has actually helped to be able to graduate earlier, which saves me a lot of money on tuition!”
