Summer Start Housing

Learning communities help ensure students get the most out of their experience at Purdue by combining coursework and extracurricular activities. Over 90% of our freshmen live in a residence hall so you'll have a blast meeting new people through the Catalyst Learning Community! In addition to making new friends, studies show that college GPA increases when living on campus; employers ranked GPA as the third-most influence factor while hiring recent graduates during 2016. Collectively, the Catalyst Learning Community will provide support and activities throughout the year to help you thrive as a Boilermaker.

You will also have the opportunity to join a learning community related to your academic major as long the community does not require a living component. Students may live off campus for sophomore through senior year. Summer Start students may also join the recruitment process for cooperative housing and Greek life; if selected, students may choose to live in the house starting sophomore year.

The Summer Start housing contract will open during January and can be found here.

Housing can be contacted at or 765-494-1000.

Students in Summer Start will be housed in Harrison Hall. All spaces are double rooms with air conditioning (yes!).

If you have a medical condition that does not allow you to live on campus, please send a written request with your reasoning to, and we will get back to you with our decision in a timely manner.

Housing and meal plans are offered at a reduced rate during Summer Start.

Meal Plans

A required 13-meals-per-week plan will be included in your housing contract for summer only; your meal plan can be changed for fall or spring. Most students find 13 meals to be an adequate amount in our all-you-can-eat dining halls. Meal swipes may be used in any of Purdue Dining & Catering’s residential dining courts open during the summer. In addition to 13 meals per week, students also receive $125 Dining Dollars for the Summer Start module. Dining Dollars may be used to purchase extra meals for you or your guests in Purdue Dining & Catering residential and retail dining locations. Summer meal swipes and Dining Dollars will start on Friday, July 6. Unused summer Dining Dollars are nonrefundable and will expire on August 12.

Other Important Information

Notification of your specific room assignment will be made before arriving.

As a Summer Start student you will have the option of enjoying an early move-in, instead of the craziness that ensues when thousands of other students are moving in during the same week!  We will provide assistance for students moving in from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm on Friday, July 6. However, you may move in without our assistance on Thursday, July 5 or the morning of Saturday, July 7 if it is more convenient for your family.

Please visit the University Residences website for more information about housing.
