Transformative Education 2.0 – Road Map Foundations

Road Map Foundations: Propelling Student Success

This project will focus on enhancing key areas of our student success systems:

  • Improve student metrics such as 4- and 6-year graduation rates, and at-risk and STEM retention and graduation rates.
  • Data Visualization of degree plans to show curriculum paths and student trajectory. Students will be able to plan and pursue majors, minors, certificates, and experiential education opportunities in a way that is not possible today. Advisors will be able to better assist students and the university will be able to project course demand for instructional and space planning.
  • A streamlined process for both transfer and CODO students with transparent guidelines to reduce barriers for students and reduce steps for advisors and other student facing offices.
  • Real-time strategic communication/engagement with students driven by data. Students will receive targeted communication within the student systems they live in.
  • Students will have enhanced access to information via data dashboards to assist in self-support of their academic success/progress. Advisors and faculty also will have access to real-time dashboards allowing “just-in-time” student support actions. Executives will have access to dashboards showing student trends and patterns, allowing tactical and targeted adjustments throughout the semester.

Strategic Expansion of Experiential Education Innovation College

This project will focus on increasing the quantity of experiential education opportunities, the quality of these experiences and the equity of these experiences.

  • Build a comprehensive approach to track and assess experiential learning
  • Expand experiential learning opportunities where appropriate.
  • Bring career relevant work/internships to campus and help students to take campus with them to career-relevant work while pursuing their degree.
  • Enhance student reflection on the transformative experiential educational experiences they have encountered as a Purdue student.
  • Goal: every Purdue graduate has at least one high impact learning experience upon graduation.

Enhancing Student Learning and Classroom Engagement at Scale – Innovation College

This project will focus on creating technology and pedagogy to help redefine the residential student experience at scale:

  • Student Assessment: artificial intelligence (AI) supported student formative assessment and feedback.
  • Personalized Learning: artificial intelligence (AI) supported personalized learning and adaptive teaching.
  • Faculty Productivity: artificial intelligence (AI) teaching assistants.
  • Adaptive Learning and Teaching: adaptive testing algorithm development.
  • Enhanced Active/Experiential Learning: augmented reality (AR) to enhance active learning in an in-person classroom.
  • Virtual Laboratories Experiences: develop additional opportunities to create virtual labs.
  • Enhancement of Online Learning Experiences: virtual reality (VR) enabling active/experiential learning in online courses.
