Employee action required April 30 for Microsoft Office software upgrades

To facilitate an upgrade to the Microsoft Office 2016 software suite, all Physical Facilities, Service Enterprises and Environmental Health and Public Safety employees need to restart their workstations at the end of their work day and dock CSDS-supported laptops and tablets overnight on Monday (April 30).

After Microsoft Office 2016 is installed during the regularly-scheduled maintenance window on Tuesday (May 1), the following differences will occur:

  • The list of previously used “recent documents” will not be available, and staff should note locations of commonly used documents prior to the upgrade. A new set of “recent documents” will generate as documents are opened and used following the upgrade.

  • Any Office icons that are currently pinned to the Start Menu or Taskbar will be removed, and new versions will need to be re-pinned by users.

  • A new version of Skype for Business will be installed and will not start automatically upon the first login after the upgrade. Users will need to open Skype for Business and log in with their Office 365 email address and career account password, and the then program will resume launching upon start-up of the machine.

  • Microsoft Office 2016 programs will be listed individually in alphabetical order via the Start menu instead of grouped together in a single folder.

  • Outlook PST files will need to be reconnected.

Questions or issues may be directed to ITaP Customer Service Center at (765) 494-4000 or itap@purdue.edu with a reference to the Microsoft Office 2016 upgrade.
