Modifications coming to pedestrian signals at Mitch Daniels Boulevard and MacArthur Drive
In an effort to enhance pedestrian safety and reduce confusion for drivers, the current signals at the intersection of Mitch Daniels Boulevard and MacArthur Drive will be replaced with new signage and beacons.
There are currently HAWK, or high-intensity activated crosswalk, signs and signals in place. They will be replaced with new signage with rectangular rapid flashing beacons, or RRFB, by the city of West Lafayette. The new signage and flashing beacons are the same style of beacons located at the roundabout at South River Road and Tapawingo Drive. The beacons start flashing once activated by pedestrians.
These same style of beacons will also be installed at the intersection of Mitch Daniels Boulevard and McCutcheon Drive.
The work will include lane restrictions and is scheduled to take place over fall break on Saturday through Tuesday (Oct. 10-13).
Additional Work Along MacArthur Drive
In addition to the crosswalk work, MacArthur Drive from First Street to Third Street will be closing for most of fall break for various smaller projects. The closure will begin on Friday (Oct. 9) at 7:30 a.m.
This section of the road will reopen Saturday at noon and all day Sunday (Oct. 10 and 11) for home football game traffic, then close again on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 12 and 13).
Pedestrians, motorists and bicyclists should be cautious in the area while work in underway, obey posted signs or flaggers and seek alternate routes.
