Energy Conservation Action Days declared for Aug. 31-Sept. 2

Due to forecasted extreme temperatures and humidity, Administrative Operations has declared Energy Conservation Action Days for Monday, Aug. 31 through Wednesday, Sept. 2.

The initiative encourages the Purdue community to take simple actions to help reduce campus energy consumption and ease demand on utility systems during periods of peak energy use. Actions include:

• Increasing thermostat settings where possible.
• Keeping air registers and vents clear.
• Closing windows, blinds and doors to keep heat out.
• Turning off lights in unoccupied spaces.
• Powering down and unplugging unused equipment and devices.
• Reducing the use of heat-generating equipment, such as autoclaves, lasers and ovens, during the hottest parts of the day.
• If possible, consider re-scheduling research activities for cooler parts of the day or different days of the week.
• Closing fume hood sashes when not in use.

By working together, these efforts can help reduce energy consumption, maintain reliable utility operations and keep indoor spaces comfortable during periods of extreme heat.
