Energy Conservation Action Day declared for July 16

Administrative Operations (AO) is declaring an Energy Conservation Action Day for Thursday, July 16 due to outdoor heat and humidity levels. AO is also aware of some technical issues at the Wade Utility Plant that may contribute to higher indoor temperatures today, and work is underway to resolve these issues.

The Purdue community is encouraged to take simple actions to help reduce campus energy consumption and ease demand on utility systems during periods of peak energy use. Actions include:

• Closing fume hood sashes when not in use.
• Increasing thermostat settings where possible.
• Closing windows, blinds and doors to keep heat out.
• Turning off lights in unoccupied spaces.
• Powering down and unplugging unused equipment and devices.
• Reducing the use of heat-generating equipment, such as autoclaves, lasers and ovens, during the hottest parts of the day.

By working together, these efforts can help reduce energy consumption, maintain reliable utility operations and keep indoor spaces comfortable during periods of extreme heat.
