Alexandra Kemp joined the ranks of more than 400,000 Fulbrighters who have gone abroad to conduct research, study, or teach in one of 165 partner countries since 1946.
On the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright program, Alexandra began conducting research on the use of unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs), that is, drone technology in emergency and military medicine. She is an experienced professional opera singer and licensed pilot. Informed by her performance both in the air and on the stage, she cites her keen awareness of what the body needs as key to arriving at her research topic, which bridges aviation and healthcare. Yet another influence was the opportunity she had to participate in a United Nations event, where she listened to women who lacked access to basic medical supplies and clean water in their home country.
Concurrently pursuing a Ph.D. in Technology for Aviation and Human Factors, Alexandra will begin her dissertation research with this four-month project through an industrial engineering lab at Tal Aviv University in Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel. Not only is Israel the largest exporter of drones; but Alexandra will have the opportunity to interview ER doctors, nurses, and first responders from Israel’s health system renowned for its efficiency.
