The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides post-baccalaureate funding for 8-12 months for individuals to study, research, or teach abroad while promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
The Open Study/Research Award is just the beginning of Kendrick Hardaway’s vision of long-term collaboration on his path to becoming a faculty research scientist at a top environmental engineering school. “I aim to reform not only climate risk methods,” Kendrick says, “but also environmental classroom studies by introducing new solutions to environmental challenges.” New Zealand and more specifically, the University of Canterbury, offer Kendrick one of the few locations to study academic-policy partnerships between the host institution and local decisionmakers.
With his Fulbright grant, Kendrick proposed using a new method to inform Wellington Regional planners and Christchurch, New Zealand councils about potential climate hazards for various strategic plans for urban growth. Kendrick will engage in the Christchurch community through volunteering at community gardens and schools as well as playing rugby with university students.
