Personal electronics recycling event being held Saturday on campus
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University Physical Facilities and Oscar Winski invite the community to bring personal electronics to a combined recycling drive, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (March 30) outside of Young Hall on Purdue’s campus. Donors should enter the circle drive along Grant Street from the north, and individuals will be available onsite to help unload and collect electronics.
“We were pleased with last year’s contributions and hope to see continued community participation. We’re hoping to beat last year’s total of 15,000 pounds,” said Michael Gulich, director of Campus Master Planning and Sustainability. “Collected electronics will be broken down and recycled in an environmentally-friendly manner that keeps hazardous materials out of landfills.”
Some of the devices that may be recycled at this event at no cost to the donor include personal cell phones, computer equipment, fax machines, laptops, lithium ion batteries, printers, radios, and other electronics that have a cord or battery. Computer CRT monitors, microwaves and televisions will be accepted for a fee. A complete list of recyclable items, including those with fees, is available online.
Items that contain refrigerants, light bulbs, non-rechargeable batteries or alkaline batteries will not be taken at this event. Dehumidifiers, freezers, refrigerators, coolers, PCB ballasts and university-owned property are not acceptable.
The items collected at this event will be included in Purdue’s totals for the RecycleMania Tournament, which goes through the end of March.
