Purdue encouraging campus community to participate in recycling contest

For the ninth consecutive year, Purdue University is participating in RecycleMania, a recycling competition among higher education institutions in the United States and Canada. The contest recently began and continues through March 30.

Physical Facilities asks the West Lafayette campus community to get involved by recycling paperwork and other unneeded materials while following the University’s Data Handling and Media Disposal guidelines. An electronics recycling drive will occur later in the competition, and a date and location will be announced in the coming weeks. Items collected during that event will count toward Purdue’s overall RecycleMania numbers. Last year, Purdue ranked third out of 46 participating colleges and universities in the Electronics Recycling category with 64,400 pounds of electronics that were diverted from the landfill.

Questions about Purdue’s involvement in this year’s competition or recyclable materials should be directed to the Office of Campus Master Planning and Sustainability at 765-494-2481 or sustainability@purdue.edu. More information about RecycleMania and results from previous years can be found at www.recyclemania.org.
