Donations sought for emergency cleanup buckets

Purdue's Civic Engagement and Leadership Development office is working with its student steering committee, Boilers in Action, to help those affected by hurricanes Harvey and Irma by collecting items to be used in Church World Service emergency cleanup buckets

The emergency cleanup buckets equip people after a flood, tornado, hurricane or other disaster. The following items may be dropped off at Krach Leadership Center, Room 336, during business hours through Sept. 22:

* Scouring pads
* Sponges, small and large
* Scrub brushes
* Reusable cleaning towels (e.g. Easy Wipes)

* 50 oz. or 25 oz. bottle(s) of liquid laundry detergent
* 16-28 oz. bottles of liquid disinfectant dish soap
* 12-16 oz. bottles of household cleaner that can be mixed with water (no spray bottles)
* Packages of 48-50 clothespins

* Clothesline, 50 ft. or 100 ft.
* Dust masks
* Nonsurgical latex gloves
* Work gloves, cotton with leather palm or all leather

* Heavy-duty or contractor-type 30- to 45-gallon trash bags on a roll
* 6-9 oz. bottle of non-aerosol insect repellent
* Five gallon buckets with resealable lid (If bucket has been used, clean well but do not use if it has held chemicals of any kind.)

All cleaning items must be new, and all liquid items must be capped and securely tightened.

Members of Boilers in Action and those on the Active Citizen listserv will assemble the buckets, which will be taken to a CWS kit collection site in Elkhart, Indiana.
