PUPD to offer free active threat training in June

As part of an outreach effort for the campus community, the Purdue University Police Department is offering free, in-person training classes for potential active threat events.

Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events, or CRASE, classes will be June 13. The class provides strategies, guidance and plan options for surviving an active threat event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options and preparing in advance what your response will be.

CRASE was designed in 2004 by Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training.

The June 13 sessions, at Wilmeth Active Learning Center (WALC), Room 2087, will take place at the following times:

  • 8:30-10:30 a.m.
  • 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Each session has the same content, so only register for one. To register, contact Lt. Sarah Clark at sclark32@purdue.edu. Indicate the preferred session when registering.

Affiliation with Purdue is not required to register; however, priority will be given to Purdue faculty, staff, students and affiliates.

In addition to the CRASE classes, PUPD offers community outreach events throughout the year, including verbal de-escalation training.
