Campus community invited to celebrate Earth Day in April

The Campus Planning, Architecture and Sustainability department is partnering with several departments and student organizations to celebrate Earth Month this month. The extended celebration is centered on Earth Day, which is Saturday, April 22.

West Lafayette campus faculty, staff and students are invited to join the planned events and activities to promote sustainable initiatives. Some of this year’s events include campus cleanup sessions with Boiler Green Initiative, an invasive plant removal session at Stewart Woods, an Earth Day fair with the Purdue Science Sustainability Council and a tree planting with the Grounds department to celebrate Purdue’s 14th consecutive year of receiving the Tree Campus USA award.

“Typically, Purdue University celebrates Earth Week, but we wanted to take the opportunity to extend events this year,” said Tony Gillund, director of Sustainability. “Hosting events all month provides more time to raise awareness and spread important information about environmental protection. We and our partners are excited for the many events planned and hope the campus community will join us.”

More information about these events and other April activities is available on the Sustainability website. Some events may require registration, which is also available on the Sustainability website.

Many of the events listed are weather-dependent. Check the social media channels noted for specific events, and check @SustainPurdue (Facebook, Instagram or Twitter) and @purdue_sg  (Instagram or Twitter) for others.

Campus Planning, Architecture and Sustainability is part of Administrative Operations. The organization supports the university through safe, reliable and transformative services. Organizing and hosting events to celebrate Earth Day and our environment is just one of many ways the organization powers Purdue.
