Campus community invited to bike to work event tomorrow for nationally recognized day

Friday (May 19) is National Bike to Work Day, and the community is invited to join staff from Administrative Operations’ Campus Planning, Architecture and Sustainability department in cycling through campus.

The planned 0.6-mile ride through campus will begin at 7:15 a.m. and depart from the Purdue Bell Tower. The route will follow new or improved bicycle infrastructure – a result of one of the 2020 Physical Facilities Sustainability Master Plan goals – east through notable parts of campus. A stop is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. at West Lafayette City Hall, then the group will ultimately travel to the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge that connects West Lafayette and Lafayette where mayors and county commissioners will read a proclamation. Coffee, snacks and a raffle for gift cards will be available for participants. The event is set to conclude at 10 a.m.

No registration is required to participate.

Riders are encouraged to wear a helmet and follow all rules of the road, including riding only on designated paths and obeying stop signs and traffic signals. Individuals who do not own a bicycle but wish to participate should check Veo electric bike availability.

Administrative Operations supports the university through safe, reliable and transformative services. Providing increased bicycle infrastructure, promoting alternative transportation and partnering with the Greater Lafayette community are just a few ways the organization continues to power Purdue.

National Bike to Work Day is promoted by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated across the United States. May is National Bike Month.
