Registration open for 18th annual Garnet E. Peck Symposium

The 18th annual Garnet E. Peck Symposium will be held March 30-31 by the Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy, with corporate support from Aprecia, the 3DP Pharmaceutical Company. The symposium will be held on the second floor of Stewart Center, and the 3DP Workshop will be held in the Purdue Memorial Union’s Anniversary Drawing Room.

Chaired by Rodolfo Pinal, associate professor of industrial and physical pharmacy, the symposium will be themed “Advanced Manufacturing of Pharmaceuticals.” The program will feature presentations by renowned pharmaceutical industrial representatives and researchers as well as poster sessions and presentations from graduate students. New this year will be a 3DP workshop given by Aprecia.

“Immunotherapies have revolutionized medicine, and we are very excited that this year’s Peck Symposium will bring together, on the Purdue campus for the first time, a group of leaders in the field to showcase some truly exciting, cutting-edge manufacturing science,” Pinal said. “These are all speakers who are pushing the field of immunotherapy forward, and we are excited to be hosting them at Purdue as part of the Peck Symposium.”

This year’s event also will include the “Three Minute Thesis” competition, in which graduate students will pitch their thesis research to the audience in three minutes or less. Voting will then take place to determine first, second and third prize awards of up to $250 in scholarships.

Presenters are:

* Lynne Taylor, Purdue University, “Recent Advances in Mechanisms Underlying Drug Release from Amorphous Solid Despersions.”

* R. Christian Morton, partner, FinnBrit Consulting, “Impact of Advanced Pharmaceutical Manufacturing of Excipients.”

* Stephen Hammond, Stephen Hammond Consulting, “Aprecia’s Z-FORM Flex In-Cavity 3DP Manufacturing System.”

* Yunsong (Frank) Li, senior director of product development, Catalent, “Leveraging High-Throughput Analytics and Automation to Rapidly Develop High Concentration mAb Formulations.”

* Niall Barron, University College Dublin and principal investigator, NIBRT, “Modifying RNA Epigenetics to Improve the Production of Recombinant Products.”

* Sandro Matosevic, Purdue University, assistant professor, theme: development of cell-based immunotherapies.

The event is $15 for individuals with @purdue.edu email addresses and $300 for all other attendees. Registration is required and will close when the conference has reached capacity.

The event honors the late Garnet E. Peck, professor emeritus of industrial and physical pharmacy, and his contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences, including the development of latex-based tablet coatings that have been used in the industry for more than 35 years.
