Purdue community invited to reception honoring 2022 Title IX Distinguished Service Award recipients

The Purdue University community is invited to a reception honoring the 2022 Title IX Distinguished Service Award recipients for their contributions to the advancement of gender equality in higher education, in intercollegiate athletics and at Purdue. The reception will be held Feb. 28 from 3-5 p.m. at the Dauch Alumni Center on the West Lafayette campus.

Those interested in attending should RSVP at this link by Feb. 21. 

The 2022 award recipients are:

Janet Badia (Purdue Fort Wayne): dean of College of Liberal Arts, professor of women’s studies and director of Women’s Studies Program from 2009-21.

Cicelle Beemon (Purdue Fort Wayne): program assistant at The Women’s Center and faculty advisor for the Black Student Union. 

Patrice Buzzanell: Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of South Florida and Endowed Visiting Professor for the School of Media and Design at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Buzzanell was formerly a distinguished professor in the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue West Lafayette, where she also served as the Susan Bulkeley Butler Chair for Leadership Excellence and as director of the Butler Center.

Lisa Goodnight (Purdue Northwest): vice chancellor for institutional advancement, professor of communication, chief of staff and chair of Intercollegiate Athletic Advisory Committee.

Kelley Hartley Hutton (Purdue Fort Wayne): director of athletics, serving 15 seasons as head coach of the women's volleyball program, 13 years as senior woman administrator, and as chairperson of the Summit League Women’s Basketball Committee.

Beth Holloway (Purdue West Lafayette): professor of engineering practice, mechanical engineering; director of the Women in Engineering Program; and assistant dean of engineering for diversity and engagement. 

Ellen Kossek (Purdue West Lafayette): Basil S. Turner Distinguished Professor in the Daniels School of Business and the first elected president of the Work-Family Researchers Network.

Ashley Malone (Purdue Fort Wayne): assistant athletic director for administration and championships. Currently on the Diversity Council and Community Engagement Action Planning Team. 

Colette Morrow (Purdue Northwest): professor of English, director of women’s gender and sexuality studies, senior Fulbright Scholar and former president of the National Women’s Studies Association. 

Stacie Reardon (Purdue Northwest): student affairs specialist in the Office of the Dean of Students. Led programming and outreach geared toward bystander intervention and sexual violence awareness.

Dave Shondell (Purdue West Lafayette): Head volleyball coach, Big Ten Conference 2011 Mideast Region Coach of the Year and 2021 Northeast Region Coach of the Year. 

Laura Stegall: 2002 Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne graduate, DME Academy’s athletic director, author of “Diary of a No Name Girl” and co-founder of I Can I Will - Win the Day Foundation.

Marcy Towns (Purdue West Lafayette): Bodner-Honig Professor of Chemistry, 2015 recipient of Society for College Science Teachers Outstanding Undergraduate Science Teacher Award, and 2021 recipient of the IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry Award. Served as faculty athletic representative for a three-year term in 2017.

Oriana White: 2022 Purdue Northwest graduate of the College of Business (MBA) and former president of the Student Government Association. Served as undergraduate admissions student officer, graduate aide for the Office of New Student Orientation, and graduate aide for the Office of Institutional Advancement.  

Julie Wiejak (Purdue Northwest): executive director of undergraduate admissions. Former experiences include head volleyball coach, senior women’s administrator, member of the Positive Coaching Alliance and collaboration with Girls on the Run, Girls on the Go and Susan G. Komen Foundation to promote the mission of all women’s organizations.
