Fidelity, HSA Bank implement security updates

Fidelity, Purdue’s official provider of education, guidance and assistance related to retirement plan investments and decisions, is adding another layer of protection to participants’ accounts.

New security protocols are being implemented to keep participants’ information secure whenever they link their Fidelity accounts with outside websites and apps and provide them with their Fidelity login information. Examples include:

  • Money management websites and apps that let participants see all their accounts from multiple providers (sometimes known as “data aggregators”).
  • Budgeting apps and banks that import a participant’s spending and saving information from their Fidelity accounts.
  • Person-to-person payment apps that link to a participant’s Fidelity account.

While these sites and apps may make accessing information more convenient, they receive the same access to data that the participant has. This makes it difficult to control what the sites see and do with participants’ account information.

Participants who use a third-party app or website to access their account information on NetBenefits will be notified by Fidelity of these enhanced security protocols in the next two weeks.

As Fidelity completes this transition, participants may experience a temporary interruption on those external sites. Participants will still be able to access all their account information and activity on NetBenefits.com or the NetBenefits app.

The email from Fidelity will include additional recommended steps participants can take to protect their information, along with a link to read more about other ways Fidelity protects their data.

HSA Bank

HSA Bank has made updates to its member website and mobile app. Among the changes are two-factor authentication, adding another layer of account security beyond username and password. Members will get a unique code sent to their phone or email to enter during login.

HSA account holders also have a new online experience with a clearer view of HSA activity, plus new tools like a contribution planner to help users save. More updates are coming next year for those with FSAs and HRAs.

A new mobile app is also available to complement the new online experience. Current mobile app users will receive a prompt during login to download the new app.
