QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training available this fall

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and the Office of the Dean of Students is sharing opportunities for faculty, staff and students to attend QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training sessions this fall.

QPR stands for Questions, Persuade, and Refer – three steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade and refer someone to help.

QPR can be learned in the Gatekeeper course in as little as two hours. Instructors will present, discuss and role-play scenarios until participants feel comfortable with the material. QPR-trained Gatekeepers learn to recognize the warning signs of suicide, how to offer hope and how to get help and save a life. At the completion of the training, participants will receive a certificate.
