Purdue to launch measure on campus well-being, belonging

Undergraduate students at the West Lafayette campus will have an opportunity to participate in an inaugural survey measuring campus well-being and campus belonging.

Purdue leaders recognize that well-being and sense of belonging impact students’ success during college. Although campus belonging has been measured since 2013 — via one question in the SERU (Student Experience at the Research University) survey — campus well-being has not been measured with regularity across the entire student population.

The inaugural measure on campus well-being will launch during the 10th week of the fall 2022 term (week of Oct. 24), and again in the 10th week of the spring 2023 term.

Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment (IDA+A) will facilitate the collection of this data. To maximize participation across the different areas of student populations, IDA+A is asking faculty and staff to encourage student participation. The data collected will inform decisions about the success of students, and it’s imperative to obtain a sample that captures an adequate response from small academic and demographic segments of the student population.

To measure what is important to the wide variety of students at Purdue, all colleges and major units have the option to include up to five wild card questions in the survey. Details about this process will be communicated directly with colleges and units in early September.

More information about the measure and process is available on the IDA+A website. Questions can be directed to idata@purdue.edu.
