International Programs offering grants for virtual study abroad efforts

Purdue’s International Programs is offering three grants for Purdue West Lafayette faculty and staff to encourage the development of new online courses or projects with international partners that intentionally plan for intercultural learning outcomes.

These grants are the Intercultural Pedagogy Grant (IPG), the Virtual Experiential Intercultural Learning (VEIL) grant and the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) grant. IPG provides funding and training to support both virtual and in-person study abroad, while VEIL and COIL are for virtual exchange only. 

* IPG. The newly revised IPG program now provides two separate tracks to support faculty and staff in developing intercultural interventions for their programs and courses. One track focuses on in-person study abroad and study away programs, and the other emphasizes supporting intercultural student learning in virtual contexts. Study abroad/away and virtual exchange program leaders are encouraged to apply for IPG to fulfill training requirements for SAIL or VEIL grants and receive IPG funding of $2,000.

* VEIL. The VEIL grant program provides incentive funding to program leaders who have developed a virtual exchange component as a part of a course or program, which incorporates a partnership with a peer institution. Completion of IPG for VEIL is required.

* COIL. The COIL grant program provides incentive funding to program leaders who have developed a robust virtual exchange as a part of a course or program that incorporates collaboration with a peer institution on a design project or shared program.

The deadline to apply is Aug. 19. The application for all three grant programs can be submitted via Qualtrics. Both VEIL and COIL may be combined with IPG in a single application.
