Faculty invited to apply to Health Equity Faculty Champions Program

Faculty from Purdue’s West Lafayette campus are being invited to apply for the new Health Equity Faculty Champions Program.

The Health Equity Faculty Champions Program is designed to build Purdue’s workforce capacity to help address disparities in health equity. The program will help position Purdue as a collaborative, transformational and interdisciplinary leader in health equity across the University, Indiana and beyond.

The Health Equity Faculty Champions will lead or co-lead one of the three focus areas in year one:

  • Food for health: nutrition, obesity, food insecurity, supply chain.
  • Infectious diseases: COVID, HIV and zoonotic diseases.
  • Mental health and substance misuse.

Faculty will work with Dr. Jerome Adams, Executive Director of Health Equity Initiatives, and Holly Wood, Senior Director of Health Equity, to shape these efforts and help build workgroups through cross-campus collaboration. Each champion will be asked for a one-year commitment.

Faculty champions should have:

  • A solid knowledge base in the focus area.
  • Passion for making a tangible impact in health equity.
  • Commitment to work collaboratively across schools and disciplines.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships.
  • Ability to envision and plan initiatives.

Details about the application process are available online. Applications must be submitted to Aubrey Adams at adams339@purdue.edu by 5 p.m. July 20. Final decisions will be made and communicated to applicants by 5 p.m. Aug. 5, and the kickoff meeting is slated for the week of Aug. 15.

Additional information is available on the Health Equity Faculty Champions webpage.
