Campus community invited to register bicycles at tent event hosted by police

The Purdue University Police Department, West Lafayette Police Department and Transportation Services will host a bicycle registration event at 2:30-4:30 p.m. today (Aug. 31) along the Third Street corridor near the Russell Street intersection. Students, faculty and staff can attend the event and have their bicycles officially registered with the departments.

“When an individual registers his or her bicycle with us, that information, including a serial number, stays on file within our department,” says Capt. Song Kang with the Purdue Police Department. “In the event that the bike is stolen, we will be able to turn to that information and provide assistance with locating the bike.”

To register a bicycle, bring the bike to the event. Also bring a smartphone and be sure to download the 529Garage app. Police will provide a registration sticker so owners can upload their bicycle information.

In addition to registration, Kang says, PUPD encourages individuals to use high-quality locks to secure bicycles to the bike racks located across campus.

More information about the bicycle registration process and riding on campus may be found on the bikes website for the West Lafayette campus.
