Update to Sabbatical Leaves policy

Effective July 1, a revised policy on Sabbatical Leaves (I.A.5) will replace existing executive memorandum B-11. Changes from the memo include:

  • A more complete description of the purpose for sabbatical leave;
  • Clarification that faculty on sabbatical leave are excused from regular duties;
  • Added levels of leave for 18 and 24 semesters of service by academic-year faculty and for nine and 12 years of service for fiscal-year faculty;
  • Clarification regarding the coordination of sabbatical leave with research, instructional and engagement leaves; and
  • Emphasis that upon conclusion of the sabbatical leave the faculty member is obligated to submit a written report of the professional activities in which they engaged. Failure to do so will preclude the faculty member’s eligibility for future sabbatical leaves.

Additional communication about the policy will be forthcoming from the Office of the Provost. Visit the University Policy Office website to view both the new policy I.A.5 and memorandum B-11.

Note: Policies and standards do not apply to Purdue University Global, as it maintains its own policies and standards.
