Purdue IRB creates preapproved measures list, solicits additional measures for inclusion

To improve the efficiency of the Purdue Institutional Review Board’s (IRB) review of proposed research involving human subjects, the Purdue IRB has created a list of standardized measures (tests, inventories, scales) that will be considered preapproved by the IRB.

Preapproved measures will not need to be included among materials submitted for IRB review via Cayuse in protocol applications. Having preapproved measures will eliminate the need for the IRB to review such measures every time they are proposed for use in a protocol and eliminate the need for principal investigators (PI) to attach and justify such measures in their protocol submissions.

The list of preapproved measures will be considered a living document, and measures will be reviewed and added to the list by IRB as they are suggested for inclusion by members of the Purdue research community. Once a measure is reviewed, approved and added to the list, a PI will simply need to list the name of the measure in their protocol application and indicate that it appears on the preapproved list. The IRB will maintain an up-to-date version of the list on its webpage for PI reference.

Individuals may submit measures they would like the IRB to consider for inclusion in the list of preapproved measures through this Qualtrics form.
