New efforts aim to boost awareness and prevention of sexual harassment and violence

In an ongoing effort to prioritize the safety and well-being of all Boilermakers, the Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance has announced the creation of four new self-directed online educational courses aimed to boost the awareness and prevention of sexual harassment and violence on all Purdue campuses.

The new courses were created in response to recent campus-community conversations that called for more awareness around sexual harassment and violence. The new courses are designed to supplement the current mandatory “Respect Boundaries” modules that all new students must complete before starting classes at Purdue. The four new modules are all voluntary.  The courses, housed in Brightspace, are designed for students, but are also available to faculty and staff.

The module topics include:

  • Healthy Relationships – Identify characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships and know how to respond to an abusive relationship.
  • Impressions – The Hook Up is a series of videos played throughout this course. It tells the story of a group of college students who experience the negative consequences of sexual assault. The course examines how to recognize and report sexual assault and informs learners about support resources available, both on and off campus.
  • Intervene – Being an active bystander can help create a safe and respectful environment at Purdue. This video will help learners know how and when to intervene.
  • Lasting Choices – Students learn how to help keep themselves and others safe, the role of alcohol in sexual assault and how to report an incident.

More information about the courses is available online.

To register:

Learners are awarded a digital badge in Brightspace and a confirmation email upon completion of a course. Either of these items can be provided to prove completion of the module.
