Conference for assistant professors to focus on ‘Persistence and Resilience: Envisioning What Institutions Can Do for Faculty’

The Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence in collaboration with the Office of the Provost will hold the 13th Annual Conference for Assistant Professors titled “Persistence and Resilience: Envisioning What Institutions Can Do for Faculty” on Sept. 15-16. An option will be offered to attend the event in person or virtually.

Offered each fall since 2010, the conference brings assistant professors from across the country together on Purdue’s campus to discuss, share information, learn strategies and meet with others in an effort to raise women’s success earning tenure/promotion. Although this conference focuses on assistant professors, all faculty, postdocs and graduate students would benefit from the strategies and insights offered by the keynote speakers, the workshop and breakout sessions and are encouraged to attend.

Because of the changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, two options are available to registrants: in person at Purdue Memorial Union and virtual. The conference will feature a keynote speaker, panel sessions on topics of relevance for assistant professors and a workshop on “Practical Tips for Wellness in Our Everyday Lives.”

The keynote presentation on Sept. 15 will be by Ka Yee C. Lee, provost and the David Lee Shillinglaw Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Chemistry, the James Franck Institute, and the Institute for Biophysical Dynamics at the University of Chicago.

The conference is free for Purdue faculty, postdocs and graduate students, who must email butlercenter@purdue.edu for the code before registering. Faculty, postdocs and graduate students from outside Purdue will pay a registration fee. Registration is now open.

More information, including the conference schedule, workshop, and panel sessions, is available on the conference webpage.
